USC Holds Top Spot In Women's Varsity Top 25 Poll; UC-Davis Rises To #10

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Southern California remains the unanimous top team in the country to highlight the 2017 Women's Varsity Top 25, Division III Top 10, Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Week 9/March 15 Polls released today by the CWPA.

USC, which snapped a seven-week run by Stanford University as the top team in the land as the Cardinal ranked at No. 1 in the Preseason, Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 and Week 6 voting prior to falling to the Trojans by a 10-9 score in overtime at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational title game at the University of California-Irvine, holds its lead at four points over the Cardinal which remain in second place.

There is one change on top of a National Poll this week as Pomona-Pitzer Colleges takes sole possession of first place in the Division III Top 10 after pulling even with Whittier College seven days ago.

The University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Washington & Jefferson College (CWPA Division III Top 5) maintain their positions on top of the two CWPA league women's water polo varsity polls this week.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the CWPA, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Big West Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Women's Varsity polls are compiled and released on each Wednesday during the season through the week following the NCAA Championship.

2017 WOMEN'S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 9/MARCH 15)

Defending National Champion the University of Southern California retains the No. 1 ranking as the Trojans top the Week 9/March 15 Women's Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

USC (100 points), which became a unanimous top selection by claiming a 10-9 victory in overtime against formerly No. 1-ranked Stanford University (96 points) during the title game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational at the University of California-Irvine, remains a unanimous selection as the top team in the nation.

The first five positions in the Top 25 remain unchanged as Stanford, the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points) and the University of California (88 points) and the University of California-Irvine (83 points) hang on at No. 2-to-5, respectively.

The University of Michigan (78 points) and Arizona State University (78 points) are now tied at No. 6 as the Sun Devils pull even with the Wolverines after the duo rated at No. 6 and 7 last week.

The University of Hawaii (72 points) and University of the Pacific (67 points) hold firm at No. 8 and 9, while the University of California-Davis (58 points) jumps four places to take over at No. 10.

Princeton University (56 points) slides to No. 11 with San Diego State University (54 points) ascending five slots to land at No. 12.

The University of California-Santa Barbara (52 points), which was tied with Princeton at No. 10 last week, slips to No. 13. San Jose State University (47 points) lands at No. 14 with the duo of Long Beach State University (45 points) and Indiana University (45 points) tying at No. 15.

Wagner College (36 points), the University of California-San Diego (34 points), Hartwick College (33 points) and Harvard University (21 points) complete the Top 20 by rating at No. 17-to-20, respectively.

California State University-Northridge (17 points), California State University, Bakersfield (16 points), Loyola Marymount University (14 points), Marist College (10 points) and California Baptist University (4 points) round out the Top 25.

2017 WOMEN'S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 10 (WEEK 9/MARCH 15)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges takes over sole possession of the No. 1 slot in the Week 9/March 15 Division III Top 10 Poll as the Sagehens break out of a tie with Whittier College.

The Sagehens (97 points), who pulled even with the Poets (96 points) last week, become the first team except Whittier to rate at No. 1 by itself since Pomona-Pitzer ranked in the top position in the January 27, 2016 Women's Division III Top 10.

Whittier slides to No. 2 with the University of La Verne (92 points) and California Lutheran University (81 points) hanging on at No. 3 and 4.

Chapman University (79 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (79 points) are now tied at No. 5 with the University of Redlands (69 points) and Occidental College (67 points) remaining at No. 8 and 9.

Washington & Jefferson College (57 points) moves ahead of Connecticut College (46 points) as the duo once again trade the No. 9 and 10 spots to complete the Top 10.

2016 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion and preseason favorite the University of Michigan remains the No. 1 selection in the Week 9/March 15 CWPA Top 10 Poll.

Princeton University (92 points) rises above Indiana University (91 points) to take over at No. 2 behind the Wolverines (100 points). Indiana moves back to No. 3 with Hartwick College (85 points), Harvard University (81 points), Brown University (74 points), George Washington University (71 points) and Bucknell University (64 points) hanging on in order at No. 4-to-8.

Saint Francis University (60 points) moves up to No. 9 with Washington & Jefferson College (35 points) moving back to No. 10.

Connecticut College (11 points) and Macalester College (11 points) also received votes.

2014, 2015 and 2016 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship runner-up Washington & Jefferson College stays at No. 1 in the Week 9/March 15 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Four-time CWPA Division III Champion (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) Connecticut College (91 points) remains at No. 2 behind W&J (97 points) as the Camels shatter a tie from last week with Macalester College (77 points).

The Scots of Macalester bump down to No. 3 with Carthage College (71 points) and Grove City College (65 points) rating at No. 4 and 5.

Monmouth College (32 points) and Penn State Behrend (17 points) also received votes.
