    Water Polo Grows In Pittsburgh: State Championships, Olympians Visiting & More

    On November 3, 2012, the boys of North Allegheny (PA) High School topped Cumberland Valley (PA) 12-9 to win their first state championship. The victory last fall was amazing for a number of reasons, as inaugural titles often are. The Tigers traveled a minimum of two hours for every road game. They defeated Pennsylvania's perennial powerhouses all located closer to Philadelphia, a solid five hours away. And the entire team consisted of athletes from the same club, Tiger Water Polo.

    Water Polo Pioneer Chuck Hines Honored With Paragon Award

    Chuck Hines--the retired director of aquatics at the YMCA of Asheville, NC--has received one of water polo's most prestigious awards. Hines, 80--also a frequent contributor in the past to Water Polo Planet's "Lest We Forget" section--received the International Swimming Hall of Fame's 2013 Paragon prize for his 55 years of participation and leadership in the sport.

    Olympic Club Gives Back Through Coaching

    In a sport with only 35,000 players nationwide, it's no surprise that those who've seen success in the water continue to support and honor water polo with their time and effort on the pool deck. Water polo has created a generous family, and it warrants notice that numerous members of the Olympic Club have had an impact in Bay Area communities.
