USA Youth Women Open Play At FINA Youth World Championship With 26-10 Win Over Japan


Aria Fischer and Team USA defeated Japan 26-10 to start play at the FINA Youth World Championship

Auckland, New Zealand - December 12 - The USA Women's Youth National Team opened play at the FINA Youth World Championship in New Zealand with a 26-10 win over Japan. Aria Fischer (SET/SOPAC) scored six goals to lead the offensive flurry. Heidi Ritner (CDM Aquatics/SOPAC) and Thea Walsh (SET/SOPAC) did the job in net combining for nine saves. Team USA returns to play tomorrow when they meet Greece at 12:10pm local time/3:10pm pt (12/12). For more information on the tournament including live streaming, click here for the official website. Team USA jumped out to a quick lead going ahead 6-2 after the first period and 12-3 at halftime. They put the match away in the third assembling a 17-6 lead. In the fourth quarter Team USA tacked on nine more goals to win going away 26-10. The United States went 4/6 on power plays while Japan was 2/3. 

Lexi Liebowitz (680 Water Polo/Pacific) and Paige Hauschild (Santa Barbara 805/Coastal) bolstered the offense with five goals each.
