USA Women Open Youth World Championship With Big Wins Over Kazakhstan & Argentina

Belgrade, Serbia - August 28 - The USA Women's Youth National Team has started play at the FINA Youth World Championship in Serbia with two big victories downing Kazakhstan 26-2 and Argentina 25-2. Team USA will close out group play on Wednesday with a match against Hungary at 4:20am et/1:20am pt. Jewel Roemer and Bayley Weber led the charge in the win over Kazakhstan each piling up five goals. Thea Walsh played the first half in net recording 10 saves with Georgia Phillips going the distance in the second half adding seven saves. Team USA jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and had secured the match by halftime with a 15-1 lead. They added 11 more goals in the second half on the way to the 26-2 win. 

The United States did the job on the advantage going 7/9 on power plays and 6/8 on penalties. Kazakhstan went 0/4 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty. 

In the win over Argentina the United States didn't allow a goal in the first half on the way to a 13-0 lead at intermission. They added eight more goals in the third quarter for a 21-1 lead going to the fourth. Team USA outscored Argentina 4-1 in the final period on the way to the win. 

Weber topped her game one output with seven goals in the win over Argentina with Abbi Hill adding five goals. Phillips and Walsh again teamed up in the cage, this time combining for eight saves. Team USA went 6/7 on power plays and 0/1 on penalties while Argentina was 0/2 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
