Clearwater, FL – July 14 – The USA Youth Women were eliminated from gold medal contention at the UANA Junior Pan American Championship following a 19-9 loss to Canada earlier today. They bounced back later in the day with a 24-5 win over Argentina and will meet Puerto Rico on Sunday for bronze at 1:30pm et/10:30am pt. Team USA started off strong in the loss to Canada opening up a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. Canada turned the tables in the second quarter outscoring Team USA 5-1 to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. They continued to build on their lead in the third quarter expanding their advantage to 13-4. Team USA looked to rally in the fourth quarter adding five goals but Canada was too strong powering home six more goals for a 19-9 victory.

Izzy Gazzaniga and Jenna Flynn led the scoring for Team USA with two goals each while Emily Blackwell added 10 saves in the loss. Team USA went 3/5 on power plays while Canada was 3/9 with neither side attempting a penalty shot.

In the win over Argentina, Team USA took a 2-2 game and blew it open early with a 5-2 advantage after the first quarter. It was reminiscent of the United States’ win over Argentina earlier in tourney play when they won 24-4. Team USA exploded for eight unanswered goals in the second quarter to lead 13-2 at halftime. They added five more goals in the third quarter for an 18-4 lead. They capped the scoring with six more goals in the fourth to claim the 24-5 victory.

Bianca Becerra and Paola Dominguez-Castro scored five goals each to lead a balanced scoring attack. Emily Blackwell and Itzy Baca combined for 8 saves in net. Team USA went 2/4 on power plays while Argentina was 3/6 with neither side attempting a penalty shot.
