USA Women Suffer First Defeat At The UANA Junior Pan American Championships

Clearwater, FL - July 12 - The USA Women suffered their first defeat at the UANA Junior Pan American Championships as they fell to Brazil 6-5. Paola Dominguez Castro led Team USA with three goals and Emily Blackwell recorded 11 saves.

Both teams struggled on offense early in the game as Brazil scored the lone goal of the quarter to take a 1-0 lead into the first quarter break. Brazil jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second quarter, but team USA responded with a goal to cut the deficit to 3-2 at halftime. Brazil seized advantage of missed 6-on-5 opportunities from team USA as they scored three unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead early in the third quarter. Team USA regrouped and scored back to back goals to get back in the game as they trailed 6-4 at the end of the third quarter. Team USA didn’t give up as they scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to one, but that’s all they were able to do as they fell 6-5.

In earlier action for the women today Canada faced Argentina. Canada exploded on offense as they scored 12 goals in the second quarter on the way to a 29-9 victory. For more information on the tournament including schedules and scoresheets, click here.
