USA Youth Women Open Play In Florida With Decisive Victory Over Puerto Rico

Clearwater, FL - July 11 - The USA Women's Youth National Team began pool play at the UANA Junior Pan American Championships with a 16-4 victory over Puerto Rico. Jenna Flynn led Team USA with three goals in the victory. Itzahiana Baca and Emily Blackwell shared time in the cage with Baca recording 11 saves and Blackwell notching six.

Team USA struggled early in the game as they only scored one goal in the first quarter and went into the break tied 1-1 with Puerto Rico. Team USA jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead in the second quarter, but Puerto Rico responded with a goal to make it 3-2. That was as close as Puerto Rico got as Team USA outscored them 3-1 over the rest of the quarter to take a 6-3 halftime lead. In the third quarter Team USA’s defense shut down Puerto Rico as they took a 9- 4 advantage into the break. Team USA exploded offensively in the final quarter as they put 7 goals on the board and went on to win 16-4.

In earlier action for the women today Brazil squared off against Argentina. In that game Brazil jumped out to an 8-2 halftime advantage and never looked back as they went on to win 20-4. For more information on the tournament including schedules and scoresheets, click here.
