USA Women Finish Group Play At World University Games Undefeated With 18-3 Win Over Greece

Taipei, Taiwan - August 25 - The USA Women's National Team finished their run through Group B action with an 18-3 victory over Greece. Team USA went 5-0 in group play with no game closer than 11 goals. Alys Williams (Huntington Beach, CA/UCLA), Stephanie Mutafyan (Los Alamitos, CA/California) and Jordan Raney (Manhattan Beach, CA/Stanford) all scored three goals in the win over Greece. Mia Rycraw (Walnut, CA/Arizona State) and Gabby Stone (La Jolla, CA/Stanford) combined for 8 saves in net. Team USA took control early going ahead 4-0 in the first on goals from four different scorers including Williams, Raney, Kiley Neushul (Isla Vista, CA/Stanford) and Mary Brooks (Fresno, CA/UC Irvine). This continued in the second quarter as the United States poured in five more goals, the first coming from Raney with 6:24 to play in the period. Williams, Mutafyan, Kat Klass (Danville, CA/Stanford) and Brigitta Games (Littleton, CO/USC) rounded out the scoring for a 9-0 lead at halftime. 

The United States went up 12-0 in the third on a Brooks goal with 4:17 to play before Greece got on the board to make it 12-1. Mutafyan scored on the next possession and Team USA took a 13-1 lead into the fourth quarter. Greece scored twice more in the fourth quarter but it couldn't slow the USA attack. Five more goals went on the board for Team USA from five different scorers, the first from Aria Fischer (Laguna Beach, CA/Stanford) and the last from Raney to clinch the 18-3 win. 

Team USA went 1/3 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty while Greece was 0/1 on power plays and 0/1 penalty shots.
