USA Junior Women's Junior Worlds Three-Peat Attempted Halted By Greece 4-3

Volos, Greece - September 7 - The USA Women's Junior National Team's bid at three straight FINA Junior World Championship titles was halted today with a 4-3 loss to Greece in quarterfinal action. Lexi Liebowtiz scored two goals to lead the offense with Amanda Longan adding 8 saves. Team USA will now play in the 5th-8th place bracket meeting Canada in semifinal play on Friday at 5:40am et/2:40am pt. Live streaming is available by clicking here. Team USA scored first to open the scoring on a goal from Sarah Klass with 3:22 to go in the first period. Greece responded at the 1:34 mark with their first goal to tie the game at 1-1 going to the second. Low scoring continued in the second period as Liebowitz opened the quarter with a goal on the first posession for Team USA for a 2-1 lead. Greece tied the game moments later and it was 2-2 going into halftime.

Much like the second quarter it was Liebowitz scoring in the first thirty seconds of the third quarter to build a 3-2 lead. Greece scored on their next possession to tie the game at 3-3. Then with 2:45 left in the period Greece took their first lead going ahead 4-3. They would carry that lead into the fourth quarter where neither side could find the back of the net. Team USA had two power play tries in the quarter but couldn't convert them and Greece held on for the one goal victory at 4-3.

Team USA went 1/4 on power plays while Greece went 2/9 with neither side attempting a penalty shot.
