USA Junior Women Soar Into Junior Worlds Quarterfinals With 10-1 Win Over Serbia

Volos, Greece - September 6 - The USA Women's Junior National Team cruised into the quarterfinal round of the FINA Junior World Championship with a 10-1 win over Serbia. Ryann Neushul, Val Ayala, Ava Johnson and Denise Mammolito all scored two goals in the win with Amanda Longan adding 10 saves in net. Ava Johnson opened the scoring for Team USA to take an early 1-0 lead but Serbia tied the match at 1-1 moments later. That would be as close as the game got. Team USA scored the next three goals of the period to build a 4-1 lead after one quarter. They added a single goal in the second and third quarter all while shutting out Serbia to take a 6-1 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Over the final eight minutes Team USA put the match away as Mammolito and Harbilas scored followed by two goals from Ayala to confirm the nine goal win. Team USA went 4/7 on power plays and 1/1 on penalty shots while Serbia was 1/7 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty.
