USA Junior Women Move On To Semifinals Of FINA Junior World Championship With 12-9 Win Over Brazil

Volos, Greece - August 21 - The USA Women's Junior National Team topped Brazil 12-9 earlier today to advance to the semifinals of the FINA Women's Junior World Championship. Aria Fischer scored four goals and Amanda Longan made 13 saves in the win as Team USA used a strong second half to pull away from Brazil. The United States now moves on to meet Russia in the semifinal round at 10am PT on Saturday. The match will stream live via FINA TV and can be viewed by clicking here

Jamie Neushul started the scoring off in the first quarter putting Team USA up 1-0 early. Brazil answered with two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead at the 3:49 mark of the period. Fischer got things going on offense not long after, scoring two goals in the final 2:10 to help Team USA keep pace as the first period ended even at 3-3.

Brazil scored to open the second period but Team USA responded with three goals from Fischer, Neushul, and Jordan Raney to take a 6-4 lead. Brazil's Samantha Ferreira scored late in the half to make it a 6-5 match at intermission.

Izabella Chiappini tied the match at 6-6 with a goal early in the third but Team USA answered in a major way. Neushul scored her third and Mary Brooks added two straight to put the United States up 9-6 on the way to a 10-8 lead after three periods.

Team USA put the match to rest in the fourth thanks to goals from Alexis Liebowitz and Stephanie Mutafayan and would go on to claim a 12-9 victory.
