USA Cadet Women Win GOLD At UANA Youth Pan American Championship With 9-7 Win Over Canada

Kingston, Jamaica - September 4 - The USA Cadet Women's National Team kept up the winning ways of the USA Water Polo Women's National Team program as they won gold at the UANA Youth Pan American Championship yesterday. Facing easily their biggest challenge of the tourney, Team USA outlasted Canada in a 9-7 victory. Jewel Roemer scored three goals to lead the offense including two huge fourth quarter tallies while Heidi Ritner anchored the defense earning top goalkeeper and MVP honors at the conclusion of the tournament. After beating Canada 25-6 to open the tournament, Team USA watched a 7-1 halftime lead evaporate before hanging on for the two goal win late.

The opening to the match started like many others for Team USA as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first quarterand the aforementioned 7-1 lead at halftime. Canada scored four unanswered goals in the third to climb back into the match, trailing 7-5 going to the fourth. Canada closed to within 7-6 a minute into the period before Roemer answered with her second goal of the match for an 8-6 USA lead. With 1:39 to play Canada again drew to with a goal at 8-7. After a few tense moments. Roemer put the match away for good with her second goal of the quarter pushing the United States to the 9-7 victory. 

The 2015 tally for the Women's National Team program now stands at FINA World Champions, FINA Junior World Champions, FINA World League Champions, Pan American Games Champions and Youth Pan American Champions.
