USA Cadet Women Open Play In Jamaica With Victories Over Canada & Puerto Rico

Kingston, Jamaica - August 28 - The USA Women's Cadet National Team has gotten off to a good start at the UANA Youth Pan American Championship scoring 50 goals combined in their first two matches. Team USA defeated Canada 25-6 in their first match on Thursday and topped Puerto Rico 25-3 earlier today. Sabrina Garabet scored a game high seven goals in the win over Canada while Sarah Klass scored five goals to help down Puerto Rico. Zoe Banks stopped eight shots against Puerto Rico with Heidi Ritner making 10 saves against Canada. The team continues play tomorrow against Trinidad & Tobago. 

In the match against Canada, the United States was dominant from the start opening up a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and a 13-2 advantage at halftime. They scored seven more goals in the third to go ahead 20-4, finishing with five goals in the fourth for a 25-6 win.

The win over Puerto Rico was a similar one as Team USA took hold early going up 9-2 in the first eight minutes. They scored eight more goals in the second period to lead 17-3 at halftime. The USA defense then pitched a shutout the rest of the way as Team USA posted an 8-0 second half on the way to a 25-3 victory. 

The United States went 9/12 on power plays while Puerto Rico was 1/5.
