USA Youth Men Edge Japan 16-13 In Shootout At FINA Youth World Championship


The USA Youth Men defeated Japan in a shootout

Podgorica, Montenegro - September 1 - The USA Youth Men's National Team rebounded today at the FINA Youth World Championship with a 16-13 shootout win over Japan. Marko Vavic and Ashworth Molthen scored four goals each in the win with Sam Murphy posting 18 saves in net. Team USA closes out play on Friday in the ninth place match against Spain at 5:20am pt. The two teams were even throughout regulation as the United States and Japan were tied at 3-3 after the first quarter and 5-5 at halftime. The two were even at 9-9 after the third quarter and knotted up at 13-13 after regulation. In the shootout it was all Team USA as they blanked Japan 3-0 in the shootout on goals from Molthen, Hannes Daube, and Dennis Blyashov

Team USA went 3/7 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties while Japan went 1/5 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty.
