USA Youth Men Pull Away From Puerto Rico For 14-6 Victory On Day Three Of UANA Junior Pan Ams

Clearwater, FL - July 12 - The United States Men's Youth National Team took a 2-2 match after one quarter and turned it into a 14-6 win over Puerto Rico by the end of four quarters. Garrett Zaan scored five big goals while Kent Emden made nine saves in net. Team USA now advances out of group play and will meet Peru in quarterfinal action at 12:30pm et/9:30am pt on Friday. For more information on the tournament including schedules and scoresheets, click here. Team USA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Zaan and Alex Tsotadze only to see Puerto Rico run off two straight scores to tie the game at 2-2. In the second quarter the United States regained control outscoring Puerto Rico 6-2 to go in front 8-4 at halftime. Zaan added two goals in the second quarter and had two more in the third as Team USA put the match away adding on three more goals to go ahead 11-5. In the fourth quarter they again outscored Puerto Rico 3-1 to take the match 14-6. 

The United States went 3/9 on power plays and 0/1 on penalties while Puerto Rico was 2/6 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty. In other men's action today Canada defeated Peru 16-6 while Brazil moved past Argentina 17-4. Both Canada and Brazil claimed group titles. Prior to the USA-Puerto Rico match it was Colombia downing Barbados 17-6.
