USA Men Win UANA Youth Pan Ams Title With 6-5 Victory Over Brazil

Lima, Peru - July 8 - The USA Youth Men's National Team capped an undefeated run at the UANA Youth Pan Ams with a 6-5 win over Brazil to claim the gold medal. Tommy Gruwell scored two goals in the win with Daniel Rowland and Anthony Rethans combining for seven saves. Rethans was named the Top Goalkeeper and Garrett Zaan earned Most Valuable Player honors. For more information on the tournament, click here. 

Brazil took the lead early opening up a 2-1 lead after the first quarter. Team USA rallied in the second quarter outscoring Brazil 3-1 in the second to take a 4-3 lead at halftime. That advantage would hold up over the remaining two quarters as each side mustered just one goal in the third and fourth quarters. It was enough for the United States to hang on for the one goal victory. 

Team USA went 1/5 on power plays and 1/1 on penalty shots while Brazil was 2/6 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty. 

The United States finishes the tournament 6-0 with wins over Chile, Colombia, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Canada and Brazil.
