UC-San Diego hosts Fisher Cup action this weekend

Huntington Beach, CA - May 16 - The National League moves into the Summer season with the Fisher Cup men's water polo event set for this weekend at UC-San Diego in La Jolla, CA. 2017 National League champion the New York Athletic Club enters the weekend as the top seed alongside fellow #USAWPNL foes in Olympic Club, Alumni and Los Angeles Athletic Club among others. In addition some of the top college athletes in the game will be represented on club teams including Stanford, Santa Barbara, Bruin and Golden Bear. All the action begins at 9am on Saturday morning with two courses of action at the Canyonview Aquatics Center. For a complete event schedule, click here

Rosters for all 12 competing teams have been announced and are available by clicking here. Along with the teams above Long Beach, UC San Diego, USA University and USA Youth round out the field. Admission will be available at the door only. General admission is $15 per day or $10 per day with a valid USAWP membership. The Fisher Cup is named in honor of the late Donald G. Fisher, founder and chairman emeritus of Gap Inc., and an outstanding water polo player and swimmer at the University of California. Fisher had long been a business visionary, a community leader and philanthropist. He served on the board of trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and is a director of the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco and a governor of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Fisher was director of EdVoice, KIPP Charter Public Schools, and Teach for America. He was also a member of the California State Board of Education.

The recipient of Presidential appointments to the Advisory Council for U.S. Trade Representatives, Fisher was named to the Presidio Trust board of directors by President Clinton in 1997 and President Bush in 2001. He had served on Princeton University's Board of Trustees for eight years. Other honors include the California Arts Council Governor's Award for Individual Patrons of the Arts and selection to the Bay Area Business Hall of Fame and American Academy of Achievement. Mr. Fisher passed away in September of 2009.
