Huntington Beach, CA - February 7 - The third year of the USA Water Polo Men's National League starts this month with all the action beginning on February 24 and 25 at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, CA. From there the action moves to Southern California and Irvine, CA for Week 2 play on March 11-12. The spring portion of the National League concludes on April 1-2 with the National League Championship at the William Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, CA. The finals will be streamed LIVE on USA Water Polo TV at Facebook.com/USAWP. Admission is free for the first two weekend of National League play. Prior to the start of spring competition in the National League rosters and schedules have been announced for the eight competing teams. The teams taking part include defending champion the New York Athletic Club alongside Olympic Club, Los Angeles Athletic Club, Alumni, USA University, USA Collegiate, USA Junior, and USA Academy. The club team rosters boast some of the most well known players in the game incuding Olympians Merrill Moses (NYAC), John Mann (NYAC), and Peter Varellas (Olympic Club), alongside NCAA Champions such as Garrett Danner (UCLA), Danny McClintick (UCLA), and Marc Vonderweidt (USC). The USA rosters bring athletes across a wide range of experience with University offering some of the best current college players including Olympians McQuin Baron (USC) and Ben Hallock (Stanford). USA Collegiate features another strong crop of current college athletes, USA Junior represents a mixture of talented high school and collegiate competitors, and USA Academy is a glimpse at the future of the Team USA pipeline. Athletes competing in the National League may be considered for selection to upcoming international competition including the FINA World Championship, FINA World League Super Final, FINA Intercontinental Tournament, World University Games and FINA Junior World Championships. The spring season will set the stage for summer competition at three different events including the Fisher Cup on May 20-21, the Kalbus Cup on June 24-25 and the USA Water Polo Senior Nationals on August 4-6. The top two teams in the National League Championship, Fischer Cup and Kalbus Cup will all earn automatic bids to the Senior Nationals. More information on these summer events will be available in the months to come.
