USA Senior Men Drop 10-6 Decision To Russia On Sunday To Close Out Play In Italy

Siracusa, Italy - July 10 - The USA Men's Senior National Team finished play in Siracusa, Italy yesterday with a 10-6 loss to Russia to close out a pre-World Championship tournament. Matt De Trane (Moraga, CA/Pepperdine/NYAC) scored two goals to lead the offense. Drew Holland (Orinda, CA/Stanford/Lamorinda) and Alex Wolf (Huntington Beach, CA/UCLA/Bruin) combined for 11 saves in net. Team USA now gears up for the FINA World Championship starting on July 17 in Budapest, Hungary. 

Russia took an early lead going ahead 2-1 in the first quarter. The two sides were even in the second each scoring three goals to leave Russia ahead 5-4 at halftime. It was the same story in the third quarter as both sides scored two goals as Russia stayed in front 7-6 after three periods. In the fourth it was all Russia as they outscored Team USA 3-0 en route to the four goal victory. 

The United States went 3/8 on power plays while Russia was 4/10 with neither side attempting a penalty shot.
