2014 Fisher Cup Set For May 17-18 At UC-San Diego; Schedule Now Available

UC-San Diego will play host to the Fisher Cup once again in 2014

Huntington Beach, CA - April 30 - The 2014 Fisher Cup is set for this May 17-18 at UC-San Diego and will feature 16 high level club teams competing. Once again the New York Athletic Club will look to defend their title, taking on fellow top seeds Olympic Club, Stanford, and Bruin. A new addition this year will feature exhibition matches with the USA Men's Junior and Senior National Team. On Saturday, May 17 the Junior Team will meet UCSD while the Senior Team will take on an All-Star squad. To view the full schedule, click here. The rest of the field for the club tournament includes International Blue, International Red, Newport, CORE, SBWPC, Bruin "B", UCSD, Davis, Waves, Carlsbad, Mexico, and USA "B." 

The Fisher Cup is named in honor of the late Donald G. Fisher, founder and chairman emeritus of Gap Inc., and an outstanding water polo player and swimmer at the University of California.  Fisher had long been a business visionary, a community leader and philanthropist.  He served on the board of trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and is a director of the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco and a governor of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Fisher was director of EdVoice, KIPP Charter Public Schools, and Teach for America. He was also a member of the California State Board of Education.

The recipient of Presidential appointments to the Advisory Council for U.S. Trade Representatives, Fisher was named to the Presidio Trust board of directors by President Clinton in 1997 and President Bush in 2001.  He had served on Princeton University's Board of Trustees for eight years. Other honors include the California Arts Council Governor's Award for Individual Patrons of the Arts and selection to the Bay Area Business Hall of Fame and American Academy of Achievement. Mr. Fisher passed away in September of 2009.
