USA Junior Men Top Slovakia 12-10 For First Victory At Junior World Championships

Szombathely, Hungary - August 13 - The USA Men's Junior National Team picked up their first victory at the FINA Men's Junior World Championships with a 12-10 defeat of Slovakia. Alex Bowen scored three goals in the win and Garrett Danner went the distance in net halting 12 shots. Team USA closes out group play tomorrow when they take on Russia at 1:50am pt. The first period saw both teams get off to a solid start offensively. Nolan McConnell got things going for Team USA with the first goal of the day for a 1-0 lead. The teams traded goals with Jackson Kimbell and Adam Abdulhamid also chipping in for the United States and the score was even at 3-3 after the first. Slovakia went ahead in the second period as they outscored the United States 4-2 to grab a 7-5 lead at halftime. 

In the third Team USA started to battle back. After Slovakia struck first to take an 8-5 lead, Abdulhamid and Ryder Roberts connected to cut the deficit to 8-7 headed to the fourth. The final period belonged to the United States. Chancellor Ramirez and Danny McClintick hit for Team USA to take the lead at 9-8. Slovakia responded with a goal to even the match at 9-9. The two sides would trade goals again leading to a 10-10 match with 5:42 remaining. The United States would take over from there, scoring two straight from Roberts and Bowen to go ahead 12-10 and take the match by two.
