USA Junior Men Fall Short Against Greece, Lose 7-6 On Day Two Of Junior World Championships

Belgrade, Serbia - August 7 - The USA Men's Junior National Team was back outdoors in Belgrade for day two competition at the FINA Men's Junior World Championship after lightning sent competition indoors on day one. After an opening day victory over Russia, Team USA came up a short in a comeback attempt against Greece losing 7-6. Johnny Hooper continued his strong efforts on offense leading the team with three goals while Alex Wolf added 10 saves in net. Greece took control of the match early opening up a 2-0 lead before Beck Jurasius got Team USA on the board with 3:38 to play in the period. Greece followed with another score moments later and took a 3-1 advantage into the second quarter. Hooper connected for his first goal about five minutes into the period to make it 3-2 but again Greece responded with a goal for a 4-2 lead at halftime. 

Team USA was on the comeback trail once more in the third quarter closing the deficit to 4-3 on a Dylan Woodhead goal with 4:38 to play in the period. Greece responded with consecutive scores to close out the period and built a 6-3 advantage going to the fourth. Hooper scored early in the period to make it 6-4 and one final comeback push was underway. Greece found the back of the net with a little over two minutes to play to go ahead 7-4 and it seemed time had run out. 

The United States answered with a Hooper goal on the next possession following a timeout. Then with less than a minute to play Hannes Daube scored on a power play strike to make it 7-6. Team USA was setup to have one more chance following a defensive stand but an exclusion called with 19 seconds left removed any chance of another offensive possession.

Team USA went 4/11 on the power play while Greece was 3/11 with neither side attempting a penalty shot.
