Australia Defeats USA Women 11-6 In Exhibition Match

Sutherland, Australia - January 19 - The USA Women's National Team was defeated by Australia 11-6 in an exhibition match played at the Sutherland Leisure Centre in southern Australia. Tanya Gandy (San Diego, CA/UCLA/NYAC) and Lolo Silver (Long Beach, CA/Stanford/NYAC) posted two goals apiece in the loss.

Australia took control early on opening up a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. Team USA would try and battle back the rest of the game but were met at every turn by the Aussies. In the second period each team scored one goal apiece to leave the game at 5-2 in favor of Australia at the half. In the third quarter Australia posted three more goals to just two from the Americans to grab an 8-4 advantage. They put the game away in the fourth with three more scores to take the match 11-6.

Team USA went 2/9 on power plays and 1/1 on penalty shots while Australia was 5/5 on power plays. "Today was a tough day, they beat us in every facet of the game," said USA Head Coach Adam Krikorian.
