Huntington Beach, CA - April 22 - The summer season of USA Water Polo events are just around the corner and two of the bigger events to start the season are the ODP Championships and the 1st Annual Fisher Cup. The Boys Junior and Youth ODP Championships are headed to Orange County, California on May 22-25. Meanwhile the Fisher Cup is also headed to Orange County, California May 22-24.
This presents a great opportunity of water polo viewing for those in the Orange County area. The Boys Junior ODP Championships will take place in San Juan Capistrano, CA and the boys youth are in Mission Viejo, CA. The Fisher Cup featuring the elite in men's club water polo along with action from the Men's Senior National Team is being hosted at El Toro High School and Santa Margarita High School.
For ODP Championship athletes admission to the Fisher Cup is free while ODP parents get a discounted admission. In addition breaks have been scheduled in the ODP Championships so that athletes may attend the Fisher Cup games featuring the Men's Senior National Team including athletes that participated in the 2008 Olympic Games.
Director of ODP Guy Baker sees the Fisher Cup as just another great opportunity for the up and coming players taking part in the Olympic Development Program. "We have put the inaugural Fisher Cup at a location that will give the players competing at the ODP Championships the opportunity to watch live the National Team in addition to all the top club teams in our country. One aspect of becoming a better player is to watch better players. The Fisher Cup will serve an important role in this very important part of an athlete’s development," said Baker.
