Men's Senior National Team In Action This Week

Huntington Beach, CA - March 4, 2009 - The USA Men's Senior National Team will be in action this week for the first time since the conclusion of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Head Coach Terry Schroeder and the team kick things off with a common training trip to Germany where they will take on the Germans in a match later today. USA and Germany last met in the Olympics with the United States claiming a victory in the final match of pool play.
Following their trip to Germany the team heads to Hungary where they will compete in the Volvo Cup later this week. Team USA takes on Serbia on March 6, Romania on March 7, and Hungary on March 8. Serbia and Hungary are familiar recent opponents as the United States played Serbia four times in 2008 going 1-3, however they claimed their lone victory in the semi-finals of the Olympics. USA took on Hungary in the Gold Medal Game of the Olympics losing in a high scoring affair.
The trip overseas follows a short stay in Atlanta, Georgia where the team took part in training and clinics in an effort to help grow the sport in the area. 2008 Olympians Rick Merlo, Peter Hudnut, and JW Krumpholz were joined in Atlanta by national team athletes Matt Sagehorn, Adam Hewko, Andy Stevens, and Peter Kurzeka. This group will be joined in the competitions by a host of other athletes that are currently playing overseas in various countries.
