Universal Sports CEO David Sternberg To Deliver Keynote Address At USA Water Polo Assembly

Huntington Beach, Calif. – January 9, 2012-- David Sternberg, Chief Executive Officer of Universal Sports, will deliver the keynote address on Friday, January 13 at the 2012 USA Water Polo Assembly, set for the Crowne Plaza LAX this January 13-15, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA. Sternberg will discuss the impact of the new television contract between the IOC and NBC, plans for expanded coverage of the Summer Olympic Games in London, and the impact of technology, globalization and IOC politics on the future of the Olympics as a media product. Other assembly activities the annual awards dinner on the evening of January 14 along with related meetings and seminars for USA Water Polo delegates and members. The second annual USA Water Polo Referee School along with an Olympic Development coaching summit will run concurrent with the assembly making the event a truly all-inclusive water polo experience.

A veteran television executive, Sternberg has been at the helm of Universal Sports since 2010 guiding the network and its coverage of the some of the top Olympic caliber sports in the world. This includes swimming, track & field, gymnastics, skiing, and figure skating world championships in addition to the Rugby World Cup, a variety of prestigious marathons, Ironman tri-athlete series and more. Prior to Universal Sports, Sternberg spent over a decade with Fox Cable Network Groups overseeing the launch of FUEL TV and spearheading the rebranding of Fox Sports World to the Fox Soccer Channel that lead to agreements with UEFA Champions League, Major League Soccer, and the English Premier League. A graduate of Princeton University with a Masters degree from UCLA, Sternberg resides in Encino, California.

The USA Water Polo Awards, named in honor of pioneers to the sport, annually recognize the best among water polo coaches, referees, athletes, and volunteers in the United States. In its second year the USA Water Polo referee school brings together referees from across the country to focus on referee development, management, and rules evolution. The 2012 Referee School will feature FINA referee Erhan Tulga of Turkey as the keynote speaker. The inaugural Olympic Development Coaching Summit will launch three initiatives including "It Starts With Coaches," a program designed to integrate the National Team and ODP coaches with USA Water Polo club coaches to help bolster age group development. Other areas of focus include the recruitment and development of female coaches and expansion of the sport at the NCAA level.
