USA Men Open Pan Pacs With 17-1 Defeat Of New Zealand

Melbourne, Australia - January 8 - The USA Men's National Team opened the Pan Pacs tournament with a 17-1 victory over New Zealand. Ryan Bailey (Long Beach, CA/UC-Irvine/Newport WPF) scored four goals to lead the offensive attack. Team USA will meet Japan on Monday, while women's competition will start with Team USA taking on China.

In the victory over New Zealand, Team USA got out to the strong start going up 4-0 before New Zealand would get on the board. Leading 5-1 to start the second quarter the United States pushed the lead out to 10-1 at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half as the United States continued their run outscoring New Zealand 7-0 in the second half to close out the match with a victory.

Along with Bailey's four goals the offense was bolstered by three goals from JW Krumpholz (Santa Ana, CA/USC/NYAC) and Tony Azevedo (Long Beach, CA/Stanford/NYAC), two goals from Tim Hutten (Seal Beach, CA/UC-Irvine/Newport WPF) and Jeff Tyrrell (Granite Bay, CA/California/NYAC). Other scorers included John Mann (Newport Beach, CA/California/NYAC), Shea Buckner (Villa Park, CA/USC/NYAC), and Jesse Smith (Coronado, CA/Pepperdine/NYAC) all with a goal apiece. Andy Stevens (Villa Park, CA/LMU/NYAC) went the distance in the cage.

Prior to the Pan Pacs the USA Men took on Australia in a three game series with Australia winning all three matches, 10-7, 8-5, and 11-7. The initial match was played at the historic Bondi Icebergs in Bondi Beach.
