Trieste, Italy - September 16 - The USA Women's Junior National Team lost a tight match to Italy 3-2 and heads to the seventh place game of the FINA Junior World Championships to play the loser of Netherlands/Greece. Two unanswered goals in the fourth quarter proved the difference in the lowest scoring match of the tourney for Team USA thus far.
The two squads were even in the first quarter ending tied 1-1 and that would be the score as the two teams pulled into halftime. In the third quarter the United States scored the lone goal to take a 2-1 lead going to the fourth. In the final period Italy scored twice and Team USA was unable to rally leading to the 3-2 Italian win.
Kiley Neushul and Emily Greenwood scored for the United States while Kate Baldoni added 10 saves in net. The United States went 1/6 on power plays while Italy also struggled at 1/5. "It's a disappointing finish," said USA Head Coach Heather Moody. "We hope to finish on a high note tomorrow with a win."
