USA Junior Men Edged By Australia 5-4 At FINA Junior World Championships

Volos, Greece - September 1 - The USA Men's Junior National Team lost a tight match to Australia 5-4 in the cross-over round sending them to the 9-12th place bracket. Balanced scoring had four different players find the net for Team USA while Jon Sibley recorded nine saves in net. Team USA next meets Brazil on Friday.
The United States started off strong jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter only to see the Aussies rally in the second quarter with three goals of their own. Team USA was able to manufacture a goal in the second period and the game was tied at 3-3 going to into halftime. A low scoring third quarter saw only Australia score once to take a 4-3 lead as played moved to the fourth. In the final period Australia went up 5-3 before a late goal from the United States brought the game back to a goal at 5-4. Team USA was unable to get any closer as they fell by the final 5-4.
Alex Wherry, Spencer Hamby, Nick Rascon, and Brett Bonanni all scored once for the United States and the team went 2/5 on power plays while Australia was 3/7.
