Shenzhen, China - August 18 - The USA Women's World University Games team secured a match with Italy in the semifinals after defeating Great Britain 11-8. A balanced effort featured seven different scorers including two goals apiece for Nadia Dan, Julia Oreglia, Kimberly Benedetti, and Leah Robertson. Forel Davies, Stephanie Schnugg, and Pallavi Menon all scored once while Amber Oland did the job in net stopping eight shots.
Great Britain started off strong leading 4-2 after the first quarter only to see the United States rally to tie the match at 4-4 pulling into halftime. In the third quarter the United States offense began to surge posting three more goals to grab a 7-6 lead going to the fourth. In the final period the United States posted four more scores which was too much for the Brits to match and Team USA took the match 11-8. The United States went 3/8 in the victory.
"We did a very nice job of scoring the ball on natural goals. Leah, Julie, Nadia and Kimberly were able to finish all the opportunities given in this game. There were a few time Amber Oland came up big for us and she had some tremendous saves," said USA Head Coach Matt Anderson. "We came here to get a medal and so far we have succeeded in accomplishing our goals. We are going to take this positive energy into the semi-finals and work together as a team," added Nadia Dan.
