Men's World University Games Team Advances To Quarterfinals With 8-7 Win Over Hungary

Shenzhen, China - August 17 - The USA Men's World University Games team has advanced to a quarterfinal meeting with Spain following an 8-7 victory over Hungary. Three goals for Drac Wigo, two goals for Sage Wright and 16 saves for Andy Stevens paced the effort for the United States as they rallied from an early deficit for the win.

Hungary took the lead 2-0 after the end of the first quarter only to see the United States return the favor with a two goal quarter in the second to even the match at 2-2 going into halftime. In the third quarter the United States turned it up a notch on offense posting five goals to just one from Hungary to lead 7-3 with one quarter left to play. Hungary mounted a furious comeback in the fourth scoring four times but the United States was able to muster up another score and came away one-goal winners at 8-7.

Other goal scorers for the United States included Janson Wigo, Matt Sagehorn, and JP MacDonnell. "We showed a defensive resiliency in the 4th quarter that helped us win the game. We held a high powered Hungarian 6x5 to a 3 for 8 conversion rate. We are improving each game and our leadership with our captains, JP MacDonell and Matt Sagehorn, is truly bringing the team togethe," said USA Head Coach Marc Hunt.
