USA Women's World University Games Team Opens Competition With 8-6 Defeat Of Australia

Shenzhen, China - August 12 - The USA Women's World University Games Team opened play with an 8-6 defeat of Australia on Friday. Three goals from Alyssa Lo, two from Forel Davies, and 11 saves from Amber Oland in net led Team USA to victory. They will meet France tomorrow to continue in group play.
Team USA was in command for the majority of the game opening up a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and going in front 6-3 at halftime. After three quarters the United States was up 8-5 and then held off a late goal by Australia for an 8-6 win. Leah Robertson, Adrianna Vogt, and Kimberly Benedetti added in the scoring output with a goal each. The United States went 2/4 on power plays and 2/2 on penalty shots.
"We established very early our counter attack, which led Australia to play tentatively. In the second half when both teams settled into a rhythm our five person defense stepped up," said USA Head Coach Matt Anderson.
