Huntington Beach, Calif. – August 12, 2011 –The first ever Rock-tober 12 & Under Classic is bound for the gateway to the Rocky Mountains, Denver, Colorado this October 21-23. Featuring 24 of the top boys and girls water polo clubs in the nation this inaugural tournament will feature qualifiers from each of the 11 USA Water Polo zones with an additional team allotted to the tourney host, the Mountain zone. The Veteran Memorial Aquatics Center will play host to the event that will serve as an exciting follow up to the recently completed SwimOutlet.com Junior Olympics.
"With the success we have enjoyed with our 14 & Under Turbo Champions Cup, and the growth in the 12 & Under age category we felt there was a great opportunity to launch a new event providing another chance to compete with teams from across the country. In time we are confident this will grow to the status of a National Championship, but for now we are pleased to be able to offer a new event that can appeal to teams in all of our Zones," said Scott Tanner, USA Water Polo Director of Sport Development.
"We are very excited to host the Rock-tober 12 & Under Classic. This is the first national tournament to be hosted by a Colorado club. The number of 12U players has more than doubled in recent months in our area and we hope that this event will further stimulate growth in our sport for younger players in Colorado. The Rocky Mountain Neptunes are hoping to host teams from all 11 zones and are working hard to make this a memorable event and a huge success," said Manu Ghaffari, Rocky Mountain Neptunes Head Coach.
Music will a be a big part of the event with each participating team submitting a song as their "theme song" for the event. In addition each athlete will be announced prior to the start of the tournament, a competition that will focus on sportsmanship and positive teamwork. Qualifications have already begun across the nation with the entry deadline date set for September 8.
