"The girls did a great job adjusting throughout the game especially against Brazil's heavy press," said USA Women's Cadet Head Coach Kim Everist. "For their first international game their ability to adjust was a great sign. We did a great job shooting the ball from the perimeter. Going 57% on 6 on 5 and stopping them 70% of the time on 5 on 6. Overall it was a great way to start the tournament."
In the win over Trinidad and Tobago and the USA Women were never tested in blanking their opponent. Morgan Hallock scored five goals while Paige Virgil added four along with Kacey Avalos and Aley Vilches each adding three scores. Haley Wan and Chelsea Johnson scored twice and Jordan Raney, Makenzie Fischer and Lindsey Kelleher each scored once. Carlee Kapana and Alexis Hollinrake split time while offensively the team went 2/5 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
The victory against Puerto Rico was more of the same for the USA Women as they allowed just four goals including holding Puerto Rico to just 1/9 on power plays. Fischer scored three times to lead the offense while Hallock, Avalos, Vilches, and Wan also hit twice. Virgil, Johnson, and Devin Grab each scored once and Kapana went the distance in net.
