Rosters Announced For 2011 Men's US Open Of Water Polo

Huntington Beach, CA - August 3 - The rosters have been announced for the 2011 Men's US Open Of Water Polo set for this weekend in Orange County. The tournament, held at Golden West College and Costa Mesa High School, has a new name in 2011 but a long tradition of excellence in men's water polo. A host of top players are turning out for the event including a variety of Olympians and International stars.

Defending champions, the New York Athletic Club, boasts perhaps the most star-studded group including nine players with Olympic experience. Three-time Olympian and 2011 USA Water Polo Hall of Fame inductee Wolf Wigo is joined by seven members of the United States Silver Medal winning squad from the 2008 Olympics. That includes Tony Azevedo, Merrill Moses, Adam Wright, Jesse Smith, Layne Beaubien, JW Krumpholz, and Peter Hudnut. Hungarian star Tamas Kasas, a member of Hungary's Gold Medal winning team in 2008, returns to the United States for the second straight summer to join the New York squad's powerful lineup.

The Olympic Club will be a formidable opponent featuring the likes of Olympians Sean Nolan and Peter Varellas as well as members of the USA Men's National Team in Tommy Corcoran, Thomas Hopkins and Michael Sharf. The World University Games Team, packed with some of the recent stars of the college game such as Andy Stevens, Chay Lapin, and Matt Sagehorn will compete in preparation for their upcoming competition in China. In addition a variety of clubs loaded with current college talent and other rising stars will make the tourney a true excellent display of men's water polo.
