Champions Revealed at the 2011 Women's U.S. Open of Water Polo

Moraga, CA - July 24-  The final day of the 2011 Women's U.S. Open saw championship action taking place at Acalanes, High School. In the Championship game, we had NYAC (A) facing off against Santa Barbara for a second time after NYAC (A) won a tightly contested one goal game in the opening round. Santa Barbara opened up strong with a early 2 goal advantage, but NYAC (A) came roaring back with 4 straight goals for a 4-2 lead. Santa Barbara briefly stopped the bleeding with a counter attack goal to make it 4-3, but NYAC closed out the half with a 2-0 run for a 6-3 lead going into the break. The third and fourth quarter was once again all NYAC, as they gained a comfortable lead as they defeated SB 13-6, crowning them Champions of the 2011 Women's U.S. Open of Water Polo.

 

In earlier action in the third place game,  SoCal and Stanford traded goals throughout the first half. At then end of the second period, Stanford was up 6-5, but wasn't long before Stanford pulled ahead for good, as the rest of the game belonged to them.  SoCal battled back to within 3, but Stanford proved to be to strong and held on for a 12-9 victory, giving them third place.
