Field Set For 2010 NCAA Men's Water Polo Championships December 4-5

Berkeley, CA - November 28 - The NCAA Men's Water Polo Committee announced tonight (Nov. 28) the four teams participating in the 2010 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship. This year's championship, hosted by the University of California, will be held Dec. 4-5, at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
In the first contest, the University of Southern California (26-2) will play St. Francis College (New York) (24-3). The second match will have host Cal (23-3) versus Loyola Marymount (19-8). Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Pacific time respectively on Saturday, Dec. 4. The third-place game will be played at 1 p.m. Pacific time, Sunday, Dec. 5, with the championship game at 3 p.m. Pacific time. The national championship match will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com.
Conferences receiving automatic qualification included the: Collegiate Water Polo Association (St. Francis), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (USC) and the Western Water Polo Association (Loyola Marymount). The remaining team (Cal) was selected at-large without geographical restrictions.
In 2009, USC defeated the UCLA, 7-6 to capture its fifth national championship title. The last time the Golden Bears were in the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship was 2007 when they defeated USC, 8-6, in the national title match. Cal also captured the 2006 NCAA title with a 7-6 win over the Trojans. The Bears own an NCAA-record 13 national men's water polo titles.
