Tustin (Girls) & San Diego (Boys) Take Home 14 & U Champions Cup Crowns

Shenandoah, TX - November 14 - The 2010 14 & U Champions Cup came to a close earlier today at the CISD Natatorium with the girls of Tustin, California and the boys of San Diego, California earning Gold Medals. For Tustin, it was their second straight title as they defeated Commerce 9-5, while San Diego entered the winner's circle with a 10-8 defeat of Commerce. Commerce's double silver was the first time since Stanford did likewise in 2004. Tustin's Christina Manzella was honored with the Maureen O'Toole Award while Peter Doetsch of Annapolis was bestowed the Jody Campbell Award. For complete tournament results click here.

In the semi-finals on the girl's side Tustin defeated SF East Bay (680) 17-5 while Commerce Newport Beach 6-4 to set up the championship bout. In the third place match Newport Beach was able to edge SF East Bay (680) 7-5 to take bronze. As for the boy's bracket San Diego toppled Newport Beach 8-5 and Commerce was three goals better than Stanford at 11-8 leading to the championship tilt. The win for San Diego was redemption from 2009 when they fell to United of Los Alamitos in the final match. In the Bronze Medal match Newport Beach defeated Stanford 7-3.

The rest of the boy's placement games shook out with Tustin defeating Miami 9-2 for fifth place while Annapolis got past Chicago 10-8 for seventh place. In the 9th through 12th place match-ups Dallas nipped Houston in a battle of Texas 9-8 and SF East Bay (680) was victorious over Vegas/Henderson 11-7.

Placement games for the girls had San Diego stopping Santa Barbara 7-5 for fifth place and Danville defeating Chicago 7-6 for seventh place. In 9th through 12 place action Miami blanked Houston 13-0 and Greenwich topped Dallas 8-2.
