Huntington Beach, CA - September 24 - Three-time Olympian Brenda Villa (Commerce, CA/Commerce) was recently honored by USA Water Polo at the recent USAS Convention held in Texas last week. The convention brings together members of all the aquatic sports in the United States and Villa was on hand to be recognized by USA Water Polo CEO Christopher Ramsey as FINA Magazine's Women's Water Polo Player of the Decade.
"It was an honor to receive this award on behalf of all the teammates I have played with the last ten years, as well as the women who played before us and didn't get the opportunity to play on the world stage, the Olympics. This award is also a tribute to USA Water Polo and the people behind the scenes that have built our pipeline and continue to do so. We have come along way and we have the expectation to continue the legacy that Guy Baker left behind," said Villa.
Villa and the rest of Team USA recently completed their summer competition season that saw Gold Medals at the FINA World League Super Final and FINA World Cup.
