BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The
University of Southern California and Pomona-Pitzer
Colleges take over at No. 1 in the nation as the Trojans and Sagehens
top the Week 3/September 22 Men's Varsity Top 20 and Division III Top 10 polls
released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).
In the CWPA
Top 10 Poll, St. Francis College (N.Y.) held onto the No. 1
ranking in the conference for another week by claiming the Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship title.
Voted on by
a panel of coaches and administrators from around the country during the
preseason and each week of the season based on the cumulative results of each
team, the Varsity Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo
Association Top 10 polls are released on Wednesday during the season until the
week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
Championship.
Men's Varsity Top
20
The nation
has a new No. 1 team as the University of Southern California
knocked off former No. 1 the University of California (12-11 W)
and No. 2-ranked the University of California-Los Angeles
(11-10 W) at the NorCal Tournament to rate as a unanimous top selection in the
Week 3/September 22 Men's Varsity National Top 20.
USC is followed in the poll by UCLA,
California, Stanford University and the University of California-Santa Barbara
in the Top Five as only UCLA and Stanford retained their rankings from the
September 15 poll.
The
University of
California-Irvine, University of the
Pacific, Long Beach State
University, Pepperdine University
and Loyola Marymount University complete the Top 10 as the 10
teams ranked at the top of the September 22 poll remained there for another
week.
The
University of California-Davis begins the "Next 10" in the poll
as the Aggies climbed four placed to No. 11, while Concordia
University and St. Francis College (N.Y.) tied for the
No. 12 position.
The
Univeristy of California-San Diego and Santa Clara
University moved to No. 14 and 15, respectively, while
California Baptist University, Princeton
University, the United States Naval Academy,
Brown University and the United States Air Force
AcademyPomona-Pitzer Colleges and Bucknell
University receiving votes. complete the Top

Men's Varsity Division III Top
10
The Division III rankings see a new team climb on top of the mountain
as Pomona-Pitzer Colleges picked up 99 points to take
possession of the No. 1 spot in the Week 3/September 22 Men's Varsity Division
III Top 10 poll.
The
Sagehens replace the University of Redlands in the standings as
the Bulldogs slipped back to No. 2 with 95 points, an identical spread to the
margin Redlands held over Pomona-Pitzer last week.
Johns Hopkins University, Whittier
College and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges round out
the Top Five.
Chapman University and the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology moved into a tie for the sixth position this
week as the Engineers of MIT picked up 74 points to move up from seventh
place.
California Lutheran University,
University of La Verne and Occidental College
held onto their spots at No. 8-10, respectively, to finish out the Top 10, with
Washington & Jefferson College receiving votes.

Francis College (N.Y.) used a victory at the 2010 Eastern College
Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship tournament hosted by Harvard University
to retain its position as the No. 1 team in the Week 3/September 22 Collegiate
Water Polo Association (CWPA) Men's Varsity Division III Top 10 poll.
Unlike the
National Top 20 Poll in which the United States Naval Academy ranks behind
Princeto University, the CWPA poll gives a slight edge to the Midshipmen who
rate second with 91 points, two points better than Princeton
University and Brown University which tied for third
with 89 points.
Bucknell University slips back to No. 5, while
Johns Hopkins University and Fordham
University rate at No. 6 and 7, respectively.
The
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, George
Washington University and Mercyhurst College complete
the Top 10, with Queens College (N.Y.) receiving
votes.
