USA Junior Women Take First Place At Four Nations Tourney

Los Alamitos, CA - July 25 - The USA Junior Women's National Team completed a week of perfection as they defeated Canada 7-5 and Australia 7-5 to close out the action and claim first place in the four nations tournament. Seven different scorers paced the USA attack in the win over Australia while Ashley Grossman (Santa Monica, CA/LA Water Polo) and Colleen O'Donnell (Palos Verdes, CA/LA Water Polo led the way with two goals each in the win over Canada.

The win over Canada featured a slow offensive start as the United States led 1-0 after the first quarter and just 2-1 at the end of the first half. In the third quarter Canada exploded with four goals to grab a 5-3 lead going to the fourth. The United States rallied with four goals of their own in the final quarter to claim the victory at 7-5.

Team USA went 1-2 on power plays while Canada went 2-5. Kate Baldoni (Newport Beach, CA/Stanford) did the job in net stopping seven shots.

In the win over Australia the match was tied early on at 2-2 after the first quarter. In the second quarter the United States took the lead at 4-3. They continued to build with a 6-3 advantage at the end of three quarters. Australia looked to rally in the fourth quarter with two scores, but the United States answered with one more score for a 7-5 lead.

Sami Hill (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara WPF) had a big day in the cage with 16 saves in the win.
