USA Men Tie Germany 9-9, Advance To Play Italy At Eight Nations

Syracuse, Italy - July 23 - The USA Men's Senior National Team tied Germany 9-9 at the eight nations tourney and have advanced to take on Italy tomorrow night at 8:30pm local Italy time. Thomas Hopkins (Coronado, CA/Olympic Club) pumped in four goals for Team USA and Merrill Moses (Palos Verdes, CA/NYAC) stopped 10 shots in the net as the team advanced first in their bracket.
Germany got out to the good start early posting a 4-3 lead after the first quarter but Team USA rallied in the second to tie the match 5-5 at halftime. The red, white, and blue then took the lead by the end of the third quarter up 7-6, however Germany would return the favor in the fourth dropping in three goals to just two from the United States to end the match at 9-9.
Along with Hopkins, Peter Varellas (Moraga, CA/Olympic Club) and Jesse Smith (Coronado, CA/NYAC) scored twice and Jeff Powers (San Luis Obispo, CA/Newport WPF) added a goal. The United States was 7/12 on power plays and 0/2 on penalty shots, Germany went 3/8 on player advantages.
