USA Women's Junior Team Downs Australia 12-9 For Third Straight Win

Los Alamitos, CA - July 22 - The USA Women's Junior National Team beat Australia 12-9 for their third straight victory at the four nations tournament in Los Alamitos, CA. Kelly Mendoza (Danville, CA/Diablo) led the attack with four goals while Kate Baldoni held it down in the cage stopping 11 shots (Newport Beach, CA/Stanford).
The game was close throughout with Team USA holding just a one goal lead at 5-4 after the first quarter. In the second they bumped up the margin slightly to a two goal lead at 6-4. In the third quarter the teams were even on goals each tallying three and the advantage stayed at two scores for the United States at 9-7 going to the fourth. In the final period the United States put the game away with three scores to just two from Australia to pull out the 12-9 victory.
The United States went 4/8 on power plays while Australia was 3/7. Team USA also went 1/1 on penalty shots. Other high scorers for the red, white, and blue included Dominique Sardo (San Diego, CA/SD Shores) with three goals and Rachel Fattal (Los Alamitos, CA/SoCal) with two scores. Tomorrow will bring a rematch with New Zealand who the USA thumped 19-4 on the first day of action.
