USA Women's Junior National Team Picks Up Two Straight Wins To Open Four Nations Tournament

Los Alamitos, CA - July 22 - The USA Women's Junior National Team opened the four nations tournament in Los Alamitos, California with two straight victories knocking off New Zealand 19-4 and then defeating Canada yesterday 10-7. The team takes on Australia today at 3:00pm with competition running through Sunday, admission is free.
In the first match Ashley Grossman (Santa Monica, CA/LA Water Polo) tallied four goals while Dominique Sardo (San Diego, CA/SD Shores) added three scores in the win. Kate Baldoni (Newport Beach, CA/Stanford WP) anchored the cage with seven saves. The match was never in doubt as the United States came out with the proverbial guns blazing posting a 5-1 lead after the first and a 10-3 lead at halftime. Six more goals followed in the third quarter and it was 16-3 going to the final stanza. In the last period Team USA tacked on three more goals to come away winners at 19-4.
In the other match of the day Australia defeated Canada 11-4.

In action on Wednesday the match was much closer with Team USA defeating Canada 10-7. Grossman was again an offensive power with three goals while Kelly Mendoza (Danville, CA/Diablo) added two. Sami Hill (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara WPF) did the job in net halting 11 shots.
The United States led 4-3 after the first but Canada quickly tied the match at 5-5 by halftime. A strong third quarter proved the difference with Team USA posting three goals to zero from Canada for an 8-5 lead headed to the fourth. From there each team scored two goals but the winning margin had already been decided and the United States came away winners at 10-7.
In other action Australia hammered New Zealand 18-1.
