USA Men's Junior National Team Picks Up Two Victories

Italy - July 22 - The USA Men's Junior National Team picked up two straight wins with an 11-7 win over Australia and a 10-3 victory over France. The victory over Australia saw six goals scored by Bret Bonanni (Huntington Beach, CA/Regency Water Polo Club) and Garrett Danner (Lake Forest, CA/SET) with 12 saves while the win over France was highlighted three goals for Farrel South (Newport Beach, CA/Newport WPF) and 11 saves by Chris Whitelegge (Newport Beach, CA/Newport WPF).

The win over Australia was spurred by a strong start as the United States got out to a 4-0 lead after the first. It was then 7-2 at halftime and Team USA was firmly in control. The third quarter saw each team score twice, while Australia outscored the United States 3-2 in the fourth, by then, however, it was too late. The United States took the 11-7 win going 3/4 on power plays and holding the Aussies to 5/15. Each team converted 1/2 on penalty shots.

The match against France saw a strong second half to help push the United States to the win. Team USA led 2-1 after the first and then 4-3 at halftime. A big third quarter where the United States scored four goals while keeping the French off the board to lead 8-3 going to the fourth. In the final quarter the United States added on two more goals to take the 10-3 lead.

The United States went 2/4 on power plays and the French went 1/6. Team USA went 0/2 on power plays. Team USA is off on Friday and returns to action this weekend.
