USA Men Thump Kazakhstan 14-5 In Italy

Syracuse, Italy - July 22 - The USA Men's Senior National Team hammered Kazakhstan 14-5 on day two of the eight nations tourney in Italy. Three goals by Peter Varellas (Moraga, CA/Olympic Club) led the offensive attack while Jeff Tyrrell (Granite Bay, CA/NYAC), Ryan Bailey (Long Beach, CA/Newport WPF), and JW Krumpholz (Santa Ana, CA/NYAC) all added two goals each.

A close first half that was tied 3-3 after the first and 5-5 at halftime gave way to USA domination in the second half. The United states blanked Kazakhstan in the second half while posting 9 goals to come away winners at 14-5. Merrill Moses (Palos Verdes, CA/NYAC) recorded seven saves including a blocked penalty shot and was later relieved by Andy Stevens (Villa Park, CA/NYAC) who logged one save.

The United States was 5/9 on power plays and 2/2 on penalty shots while Kazakhstan 2/5 on power plays.
