2/26/2010 12:00:00 AM

Huntington Beach, Calif. – February 26, 2010 – On March 13 & 14, Santa Ana Valley High School will play host to the second of three USA Water Polo Men’s National Team Trials Series events. The event will feature 112 athletes divided up over eight teams competing to showcase their skills for National Team coaches. The athletes have already made it through a difficult preliminary tryout process, which took place in several regions throughout the US in February, and were whittled down from an initial group of over 160 competitors.  At the Santa Ana event, the athletes will attempt to earn a spot in the third and final round, which will take place April 10 & 11 at location to be announced. The athletes remaining after the final cut round will be the pool from which the upcoming World League and World Cup teams will be chosen.

The Men’s National Team Trials Series occurs in compliance with the National Team selection processes mandated by USA Water Polo. Athletes eventually chosen from the series will be placed among the Senior “A”, Senior “B” and Junior National Team squads, filling the pipeline of athletes who will eventually make it to London in 2012.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature some of the top up-and-coming talent in the world of American water polo. Clubs from all across the country will be represented among the competitors. The athletes have each been assigned to one of 8 teams. Three teams represent individual USA Water Polo Zones: Pacific, Southern Pacific, and Coastal. Other teams include: college level players, two teams of veteran athletes with both collegiate and international experience, and two born in ‘91 and under squads boasting many athletes from the most recent Men's Junior National Team.
