Australia Moves To 3-0 With 10-5 Victory Over the Netherlands

Newport Beach, CA - December 11 - Australia improved to 3-0 with a 10-5 defeat of the Netherlands earlier tonight at the Marian Bergeson Aquatic Center at Corona del Mar High School. The defeat drops the Netherlands to 0-1-2 through three days of Holiday Cup action.
The Netherlands got off to a great start in this one opening up a 2-0 lead before Australia would get on the board with 2:19 to go in the first period. It was 2-1 in favor of the Dutch moving into the second period but the Aussies quickly rebounded to tie the game 2-2 and they then took a 3-2 lead. The teams would trade goals back and forth and at halftime it was 5-4 in favor of Australia.
In the third the Aussies made their move scoring three unanswered goals to go up 8-4 going into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter Australia put the game away going up 9-4 and then 10-5 with 3:11 left in the game, which proved to be the final score in the match. Bronwen Knox had a monster game for Australia scoring six goals on the night. Victoria Brown posted nine saves in the win while Ilse Van Der Meijden notched eight saves in the loss.
Australia will take their undefeated record up against Team USA tomorrow night while the Netherlands will take on Canada. Both matches will be webcast live through waterpolo.teamusa.org/live or by visiting usawaterpolo.org.
