Canada Draws With Russia 8-8

Newport Beach, CA - December 9 - Russia staged a furious rally to come back and forge an 8-8 tie with Canada in the second match of the 10th Holiday Cup. Sofya Konukh paced Russia with three goals while Emily Csikos and Dominique Perreault tallied three apiece for the Canadians.

Russia started off strongly posting a 3-0 lead after the first quarter only to see Canada rebound and tie the game at 4-4 by intermission. In the third period the Canadians built a three goal lead to go up 7-4 headed to the fourth. In the final frame Russia roared back with three straight goals to tie the game at 7-7. Canada went up 8-7 with 1:24 remaining only to see Russia tie the score with :22 seconds left. A Russia goal with less than 10 seconds to play was disallowed after the Russian player was inside two meters and time expired with an 8-8 draw.

Rachel Riddell posted 10 saves in net for Canada and Eveniya Protsenko logged 10 saves for Russia. Canada is up next tomorrow night against Australia while Russia will take on the Netherlands.
