Australia Tops Italy 8-4 To Open Holiday Cup

Newport Beach, CA - December 9 - The 10th Holiday Cup got underway with Australia posting an 8-4 victory over Italy to start the competition. Australia was led by three goals from Bronwen Knox while Laura Barzon scored twice for the Italians. Australia takes on Canada tomorrow while Italy will battle Team USA.
Australia got off to a strong start opening up a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and led 4-1 at halftime. In the third quarter they blew the game open piling up a 7-2 advantage. In the fourth quarter Italy posted back to back goals to draw within 7-4 but it would not be enough. The Aussies tacked on the final goal of the match for the 8-4 victory.
Victoria Brown and Kelsey Wakefield combined in cage for Australia with nine saves while Giulia Gorlero racked up nine saves for Italy.
